Earth Friendly T Shirt Rag Rugs - Recycle "Retired" Tee Shirts into useful rugs!
Easier to make T-shirt Rugs
The idea here are basically the same as on the Tricks and Tips page BUT...
they are adjusted to work with tee shirt strips that aren't as hard to handle.
As I use this in real time I will update and add appropriate information.
Please be patient, This is my first attempt at using narrower strips.
I need to find a way to  baby  my  elbow  but  still  keep  creating my T shirt rugs.

Narrower T-shirt Strips
update 1/30/09
So far, it seems a good width to cut strips for less bulky crocheting is about a skinny 1/2 inch. Remember to test a short piece for the amount of stretch. When lightly stretched the strip should be approximately a skinny 1/4 inch.

Seems that 3 stitches makes a fat inch. I have still been using  the size K hook. I have used an H also.
See which works best for you.

An average pot holder will be about 15 to 18 stitches wide.
A rug  24" wide will run about 60-70 stitches.
Of course the stretchiness of the fabric may vary this a little.

OTHER Suggestions
Yarn
Really,All the Tricks and Tips can be used with any crochet medium!
Yarns can be used and each square on a crosstitch pattern can still be one stitch.Your stitches will be smaller But that also means you could do a much larger design on, say, a baby blanket.

Crochet thread?
Personally I think the stuff is too small to work with...  :)
but you should see what my Mom can do with it. All the same suggestions can be used here too. Delicate table toppers, coasters and many other things could be created with these ideas.
I would imagine using crochet thread with a crossstitch pattern drawn out on graph paper could be very pretty. There are a great variety of colors available and the finished work would be small enough in scale that much detail could be shown.
